Psalm 98: Joy In The Lord

Four times the psalmist uses a variation of the word "joy" in this short psalm.

  • "Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth" (vs. 4a).
  • "Break forth into joyous song and sing praises" (vs. 4b).
  • "Make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord" (vs. 6b).
  • "Let the hills sing together for joy" (vs. 8b).

That's an awful lot of joy going around!

What triggers this outpouring of rejoicing?  It is the victory of the Lord and his remembrance of Israel.  For this, the psalmist encourages the pouring out of new songs and joyful noises to the Lord.

Have you expressed your joy to the Lord lately?  Why not sing Him a new song or make a joyful noise today!
