As Christians, we frequently think of God and His mercy, compassion, and love. Today's Psalm reminds us that He is also very much a God of Justice.
In Psalm 7, The Psalmist (David again) is appealing to God for justice. First, he submits himself to God's searching judgment in vs. 3-5. Then, he calls for God's to apply similar justice to his enemies and "the peoples" in vs. 6-9.
I think the heart of this Psalm (and the most beautiful to me) is vs. 10 and 11: "My shield is God Most High, who saves the upright in heart. God is a righteous judge, a God who expresses his wrath every day." While we may be uncomfortable with His wrath as described in the next couple of verses, we have to agree that God is right and just in judging the sins of the world.
Verses 14-16 describe a bit of how this often happens. In God's universe, those who plot and plan evil fall victim to the traps they set for others. Perhaps the best take-away message from this Psalm is to leave such thoughts of vengeance and score-settling with God, who is infinitely more qualified to make these judgments Himself than we are. It is better to plead our case before the Almighty than take matters into our own hands.
