Mark 13: End of Days

As I write this blog entry on October 16, 2014, the world news is dominated by such stories as the spread of the Ebola virus, the conflict with ISIS, and economic uncertainties.  While fears that the world is about to spin out of control may once again prove to be unfounded, it is revealing to find how quickly things can change for the worse.  This may not be the biblical "end of days," but the Jesus assures us that at some point in the future, it will be.

An entire chapter is devoted in each of the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke to Jesus' teaching on the end-times.  Our Lord has a lot to say in the form of a warning for His followers to stay alert and be prepared, for an end is indeed coming.

How do you feel about the end-times?  Often Christians seem to make one of the twin errors of either dismissing the idea or becoming obsessed with it.

To me, it seems a sensible approach would be threading the needle between either extreme; recognizing that the Bible has much truth to tells us about the end of the world, while also humbly acknowledging our own limitations in understanding and interpreting that prophecy.  As I have heard it said, a Christian must be spiritually prepared for the world to end tomorrow, while also making wise, responsible choices as if it were to be around for centuries more.
