Where do you put your trust and confidence? In the things of the flesh, or the faith?
Paul would have had every reason to trust in the flesh. He had an impeccable pedigree: a Hebrew of the tribe of Benjamin, a faultless Pharisee, one who was circumcised and zealous.
Yet Paul realized that these gains were actually more likely to get in his way than help him get to his goal. So he made the decision to forsake these "gains" and treat them instead as a loss. His real gain, he realized, was Christ Jesus.
When it comes to us, we each have the same decision to make. Will we trust in our flesh, our works, our upbringing, our heritage? Or will we cast all those "gains" aside and focus on the one thing that can truly make a difference in our eternity - trusting in Christ!
