Paul's instructions to Timothy about the leadership of a church continue in chapter 5 as he dispenses good advice regarding widows, elders...and wine!
Regarding widows, Paul suggests that the list of "real widows" be kept fairly restricted to those who are older and have demonstrated righteousness during their lives. These widows would be eligible receive economic assistance from the church in order to survive in the first century. Couple with these instructions are teachings about the importance of supporting one's family members who might be in financial distress.
Elders, Paul says, should be honored and rewarded for their service of church leadership.
Finally, Paul tells Timothy that he should drink not only water, but also a little wine to soothe his stomach troubles (vs. 23). Many people would probably like to hear a sermon on that passage!
