The Song Of Solomon 3: Looking For Love In All The Wrong Places

Chapter 3 seems to consist of two parts: a search for the lover by the beloved, and an image of Solomon's royal wedding procession.

Verses 1-5 describe the beloved looking for her lover, first on her bed and then throughout the city's streets and squares.  The line, "I looked for him but did not find him," appears twice (vs. 1 and 2).  She even asks the watchmen if they had seen her beloved (vs. 3).  Finally, in verse 4, she finds her lover and brings him home.

Verse 5 is a repeat of the beloved's earlier urging of the daughters of Jerusalem to not force or rush love.

The remainder of this chapter is an account of King Solomon riding in his carriage on his way to his wedding (vs. 11).  He is surrounded by sixty warriors and wearing the crown given him by his mother.  It is a day of celebration!
