James 1: Quotable Quotes

I have heard James referred to as "the Proverbs of the New Testament."  Even just dipping into the first chapter, perhaps you can see why.
James has a knack for writing pithy expressions of a most practical nature.  Thus, even in James 1, we are already getting solid spiritual advice regarding perseverance through trials, temptation and sin, anger, the tongue, and pure and faultless religion.

Once you've been around the church long enough, you will begin to recognize James-isms.  Quotes from this book pop up with frequent regularity!

But as James would undoubtedly be the first to remind us: It does us no good to just listen to the quote - we must do what it says!  (vs. 22)  May you be encouraged as you put the words of scripture, and specifically of the Book of James, into practice in your life!

  1. Your last sentence is what I hear in this chapter. Don 't merely listen to God 's Word (go to church and Bible class, even be faithful in quiet time) and go on with life unaffected. Look into the Word intently and follow Him in obedience.
