Ezekiel 32: The Ash Heap Of History

Ezekiel's dismal message to Pharaoh continues in chapter 32: The nation of Egypt is going down!

Verses 1 to 16 contain a lamentation for Egypt's king.  Ezekiel proclaims, "For thus says the Lord GodThe sword of the king of Babylon shall come against you" (vs. 11).  Exile and ruin will follow in Nebuchadnezzar's wake.  Egypt's days as a world power are numbered.

Verses 17 to 32, meanwhile, are a recitation of all the various nations that have previously been wrecked.  Egypt is going to join Assyria, Elam, Meschech, Tubal, Edom, and the Sidonians in the Pit.  Like the failed Soviet Union, God proclaims that Egypt is going to be thrown upon the ash heap of history.  (Kind of interesting that we don't have Pharaohs any more, do we?)
