Can you imagine Jesus casually asking you for a drink? That actually happened to one woman at a well in Samaria. What happened next changed her life.
I love this story of a simple one-on-one conversation with Jesus that seems so...ordinary. (It reminds me of the trendy "Coffee with Jesus" comic strips that appear on the internet.) Evangelism and discipleship can happen in the quiet, unguarded everyday interactions of life. We just need to be dialed in to the moment - and whoever we may happen to be with.
What do you make of the "living water" that Jesus offers? For me, I find it such an apt description of Jesus' spiritual identity! He is the One who can satisfy our souls so that our thirst is fully quenched. We never have to look elsewhere if we have drunk deeply of the life of Jesus Christ. In a world where our desires are purposefully and ceaselessly inflamed by marketing professionals, it is such a relief to know that utter satisfaction is available to us in God's Son! The Samaritan woman's thirst was so quenched that she "left her water jar" there at the well (vs. 28).
Indeed, once we have experienced the living water of Christ, it springs up as a well inside us. We become like the woman at the well - not only satisfied ourselves, but overflowing with His grace and truth, letting the love of God spill over to other thirsty people in our lives. When we pass it on, we give them the opportunity to discover for themselves that Jesus "really is the Savior of the world." (John 4:42)
What do you need to stop thirsting for in this world so that you can drink deeply of the living water that Jesus alone offers and be truly satisfied?
