Maybe it's just me, but my reaction to Psalm 4 is to feel comforted.
There seems to be an underlying current of trust and faith in the Lord that inhabits the psalmist's prayer. Though he may be presently facing a time of challenge and distress, he has assurance that the Lord will hear and respond to his pleas.
Certainly with the Lord comes joy greater than anything this world can offer (v. 7). On those nights when we toss and turn with sleepless worry, let us strive to remember vs. 8: "I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety."
