Romans 5: Reversing the Curse

"Just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men." (vs. 18)

Have you ever felt that being tainted with original sin is horribly unfair?  I mean, all of us (you, me, and everyone else you know) are tarred with what Adam did in the Garden of Eden back in Genesis 3.  But I don't remember eating any forbidden fruit personally, do you?  Why should we have to carry original sin around with us as a part of being human?  And yet, as Adam's descendants, we are stuck with the results of the choices that he made.  Thanks a lot, great-great-great-great-great(etc.)- grandpa!

But just as we bear the consequences of the sins of our ancestors so, too, do we inherit the blessings of the One who came before us who made a rightful choice.  Jesus Christ, as the new Adam, followed God obediently to the cross - even though He had done nothing wrong!  The result of this fateful act was to reverse the curse of Adam with the promise of Christ.  Death has been exchanged for life.

So the next time you get down on God for consigning all of humanity to hell just because of something Adam did - remember that He also offers us all a chance at redemption because of something Jesus did!
