Psalm 57: Where To Turn

Psalm 57 is a record of David recounting a familiar problem: he is in trouble and is turning to God for help.

The specifics of this psalm, according to the unofficial title, is that it is related to when David was hiding from Saul in a cave.  As you may remember, King Saul was jealous of David and viewed him as a threat.  Numerous times he sought to have David destroyed.

David's imagery for his troubles with Saul include:

  • destroying storms (vs. 1)
  • being trampled (vs. 3)
  • lying down with lions (vs. 4)
  • having a net set for him (vs. 6)
  • having a pit dug for him (vs. 6)

Even though his circumstances are dire, David puts hope and confidence in the Lord.  He knows where to turn when time are tough.  He turns to God with his praises and exaltations.  When you are going through times of trouble and difficulty, remember where to turn.  You can go to the same Lord that David turned to those many years ago.  He is still just as faithful and true today as He was then.
