II Samuel 22: Cross Referenced

It isn't too often that the Bible repeats itself verbatim, but we find that in II Samuel 22.  It is a duplicate of Psalm 18!

This song of thanksgiving hits many of the major themes of David's classic psalms, such as:

  • Vivid poetic images of the Lord: rock, fortress, shield, etc.
  • Description of being saved out of trouble (vs. 5-7)
  • A depiction of the Lord's power (vs. 8-16)
  • God given credit for deliverance (vs. 33-46)
  • A promise to praise God among the nations (vs. 50-51)

It also includes the expression, "I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised.  So shall I be saved from my enemies," which has become the basis of a popular praise chorus!  It is fitting that this Psalm found its way into the biographical section on King David as a testament to his relationship with the Lord.
