Psalm 100: All The Right Notes

Psalm 100 is a very compact psalm (only 5 verses long) yet still manages to hit all the right notes as a song of praise and thanksgiving.

Here are some of the ingredients that make it a well-rounded psalm:

  • The invocation to worship the Lord - "make a joyful noise"
  • The realm of the whole earth included - "all the earth"
  • The focus on joy and music - "gladness...singing"
  • God as the Creator - "it is he that made us"
  • The relationship between God and His people - "we are his people"
  • Focus on thanksgiving - "enter his gates with thanksgiving"
  • The goodness of the Lord - "for the Lord is good"
  • His eternal nature - "his steadfast love endures forever...to all generations"

If it is true that "the Lord is my shepherd" as the beloved 23rd Psalm tells us, then it is equally true in this psalm to hear that "we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture" (vs. 3).

Whether you are in the mood for praising, singing, worshiping, giving thanks, or just reflecting on God's goodness, this psalm has you covered!
