II Kings 3: Prophet Of Water?

If Elijah is regarded as a prophet connected with fire, could Elisha's ministry be associated with water?

Maybe it's just the way my mind works, but water seems to be a major theme running through Elisha's ministry just as fire was for Elijah.  Elisha's first miracle after Elijah is taken up into heaven is to part the waters of the Jordan with his master's mantle (II Kings 2: 14).  After that, he cleanses the water of Jericho making it safe to drink (II Kings 2:21)

In II Kings 3, the kings of Israel and Judah (as well as Edom) have a problem.  They have gone out to war against rebellious Moab, but after a week in the wilderness they are without water (vs. 9).  The king of Israel is ready to give up, fearing that the Lord has orchestrated this event to turn them over to Moab.  However Jehoshaphat, the good king of Judah, instead seeks out a prophet of the Lord to inquire.  They find that Elisha is among them.  Interestingly, Elisha is referred to as the one "who used to pour water on the hands of Elijah" (vs. 11).

While showing no regard for Jehoram, the wicked king of Israel, Elisha does respect King Jehoshaphat and delivers a positive word from the Lord.  God promises to provide pools of water to spring up from the earth with neither wind nor rain bringing them.  True to His word, the Lord filled the country with water the next day (vs. 20).

In coming chapters, we will see see additional connections to water.  Elisha heals a person (Naaman) by having him wash himself seven times in the Jordan River.  He will make an axehead missing in a river float to the surface.  He even predicts that a man named Hazael will be the next king of Aram.  Hazael then succeeds the king by assassinating him through putting a cloth drenched with water over the old king's face.

Certainly, all of these miracle reveal that Elisha was a prophet mighty in word and deed just like Elijah had been before him.
