Hosea 8: Reaping The Whirlwind

In the bleak chapter of Hosea 8, God continues to heap up the punishments upon Israel.
"For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind" (vs. 7).  This is despite Israel's insistence that they do, in fact, know the Lord (vs. 2).  But God knows the truth.  The nation has spurned the good (vs. 3).

As a result, their offering calf is rejected, their crops will not produce any yield, and Israel will be swallowed up.  "Now they are among the nations as a useless vessel" (vs. 8).

Even with their best efforts to induce God's return to them through multiplied altars and choice sacrifices, His mind is made up.  "Now he will remember their iniquity, and punish theirs sins; they shall return to Egypt...I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour his strongholds" (vs. 13-14).
