Ezekiel 2: Bad News On The Doorstep

"I looked, and a hand was stretched out to me, and a written scroll was in it.  He spread it before me; it had writing on the front and on the back, and written on it were words of lamentation and mourning and woe" (vs. 9 and 10).

Ezekiel receives his commission to be a prophet in chapter 2, but it is not a joyful affair.  God is not calling to tell His people "good job!" or "well done!"  Instead, it is a message of woe and lament that Ezekiel must share with his people.

God also divulges to Ezekiel that He considers Israel to be a rebellious house, as well as impudent and stubborn (vs. 4).  The Lord instructs Ezekiel not to be afraid of the people (vs. 6).  Whether they listen to Ezekiel or not, they will recognize that God has sent them a prophet.  And, as the Lord's prophet, Ezekiel himself must be obedient and not rebellious (vs. 8).  He will be charged with delivering God's message to Israel.
