There are 26 occurrences of "For His steadfast love endures forever" in Psalm 136, one for each verse (vs. 1-26). Intermixed within a telling of Israel's history, this phrase stands out as a consistent response to the works of God.
Do you ever need a reminder of this great biblical truth? God's love is steadfast and is eternal - it lasts forever! God never gave up on His people Israel, and He will never give up on you. God is love, as the New Testament tells us (I John 4:16). And God is from everlasting to everlasting (Isaiah 40:28). Thus His steadfast love endures forever!
The beginning and the ending of this psalm enjoin us to give thanks to the Lord. Reading through the list of His character traits and works, the response of God's people should certainly be to give thanks!
