Psalm 105: Power In The Story

"Make known his deeds among the peoples" (vs. 1).  "Tell of all his wonderful works" (vs. 2).  "Remember the wonderful works he has done" (vs. 5).  Again and again, the psalmist enjoins us to take to heart God's activities, and then sing them out again to share with others.

Have you ever noticed how our faith emphasizes the actual deeds and events of history?  "His story", in this sense, is really "God's story!"  Whether it is the gospel of Jesus and the account of His teachings and miracles, or the record of God's activity in the Old Testament on behalf of His people Israel, there is power in the story!

Psalm 105 recapitulates the experience of Israel, put together as a hymn of praise to God for His mighty acts of deliverance and protection.  The story of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph is recounted, along with the details of the plagues over Egypt and Israel's exodus.  No matter how many times this story is found repeated in scripture, it always conveys the wonder and might of God's presence.

Something essential to our experience of God is transmitted through His story of faithfulness and strength.  There is power in the story!
