Psalm 113: Raise Your Praise!

As a psalm of praise, Psalm 113 is hard to beat!

In nine short verses, we are told five times to praise the Lord (vs. 1 [3 times!], 3 and 9).  The psalm begins with the loaded line, "Praise the Lord! Praise, O servants of the Lord; praise the name of the Lord."  That right there should give you a feel for the heart of this psalm!

Why should the Lord be praised?  Because of His incomparable nature!  "The Lord is high above all the nations, and his glory above the heavens" (vs. 4).  "Who is like the Lord our God?" (vs. 5)  No one can compare to God.

And God is not only incomparable, but He also shows His mercy and compassion for the underdogs.  The poor, the needy, the barren - all are blessed and prosper because of the Lord.  That is why He is so deserving of praise.

As the psalmist enjoins us, let us raise our praise to the Lord our God!
