Psalm 117 has the distinction of being the middle chapter in the entire Bible and also the shortest. But don't mistake its brevity for lack of punch! Good things come in small packages. These are 2 verses packed with power!
This Psalm is addressed not just to the covenant people of Israel, but to all the nations of the world. And they are enjoined to worship God. "Praise the Lord, all you nations! Extol him, all you peoples" (vs. 1) No one is excluded from the worshiping community. All are expected to come before the Lord with their praises. (That means you, by the way!)
Why? Because the Lord can be counted on to show us steadfast love. He is enduringly faithful. "For great is his steadfast love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord!" (vs. 2)
That's it. The end. Two verses. But doesn't Psalm 117 tell all the people of the world everything we need to know about the Lord? Praise God because of His great love and faithfulness!
