Psalm 75: The Cup Of Judgment

The psalmist (Asaph) of Psalm 75 sings of the reality of God's coming judgment.  "At the set time that I appoint I will judge with equity" (vs. 2).  A consistent theme between the Old and New Testaments is that God stands as the Judge of humanity.

In judgment, the Lord both lifts up and puts down (vs. 7).  The picture of "putting down" is not pretty.  The wicked can expect to receive the cup of judgment, foaming wine from God's hands that they will be made to drink to the dregs (vs. 8).  The righteous, on the other hand, will rejoice and find their strength (horns) exalted.

The Church does not emphasize the Judgment as much as we once did, but it is still a doctrine we believe wholeheartedly.  Perhaps we need to emphasize it more?  If the wicked are not warned of the wrath to come, is the Church failing in part of her job?
