II Chronicles 5: The Ark Finds A Home

What a day!

When the Ark was brought to its new home of the Temple in Jerusalem, it was an incredible sight:

  • A massive procession (vs. 3).
  • Sacrifices beyond counting (vs. 6).
  • All the priests and singers, not just those on duty (vs. 11).
  • And forget seventy-six trombones; there were 120 trumpeting priests! (vs. 12)

The refrain that kept rising from the crowd was, "For he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever" (vs. 13).  This sounds like Psalm 136.

But what really made this day special was that God Himself showed up!  The new house of the Lord was filled with a cloud.  All those priests, and none of them could minister "because of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord filled the house of God" (vs. 14).  This phenomenon is sometimes referred to as the "shekinah" glory of God.
