I Chronicles 7: A Blizzard Of Words?

I don't know how you feel as you read through the list of names in the genealogical record of I Chronicles 7.  If you're anything like me, your eyes may have a tendency to glaze over.  There is a blizzard of words here, and it can be difficult to make sense out of all the foreign-sounding names and places.  Yet each name signifies a precious life, a very real person who once lived a part of God's grand story of salvation.  They even made it into God's word!

One thing we can come to appreciate about such genealogies is the vastness of the scope of God's working in history.  Generations came and went, and the Lord continued to persevere century after century with Israel.  He had in mind something that went beyond the here and now which we are so often focused on.

Some day we, too, may only appear as a list of names or a blizzard of words in someone's genealogical record, but we will still be just as real and present to God as actual people like we are today.  Let us be thankful for the names in the list, because they represent real people - just as we are!
