Psalm 130: How Desperate Are You For God?

Psalm 130 conveys the raw emotion of a worshiper of God.
Verse 1 begins with a desperate calling out for the Lord from "out of the depths."  The psalmist is just begging to be heard by the Almighty.  It becomes clear that the psalmist is intent on searching for God's forgiving grace in verse 3.  He asks rhetorically, "If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand?"

The psalmist revels in the fact that forgiveness is available from God.  He describes the depth of his passion by stating, "I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord, more than those who watch for the morning, more than those who watch for the morning" (vs. 5-6).

Do you desire God this much?  Is your soul hungry and thirsty for the presence of the Living God?  Do you long for the Lord like a watchman waiting for the rays of dawn?  How desperate are you for God?

It is the psalmist's hope that all Israel would come to pursue God with such fiery devotion.  He calls upon his nation to "hope in the Lord!" (vs. 7)  Once again, this passion is rooted in God's forgiving character and His choice to redeem His people.
