Esther 8: The Shoe Is On The Other Foot

After the death of Haman, there is still the little matter of the Jews' pending extermination to clear up.

King Ahasuerus promptly promotes Mordecai, giving him the signet ring that had formerly been entrusted to Haman.  Now it is up to Esther and Mordecai to come up with a plan to avert the day of death that has been assigned for the Jews.  With the king's permission, a new edict is published, one that will allow the Jews of every town to band together, to protect themselves, and to exert vengeance upon their enemies.  In this way, they will be protected from the king's original order that sought their destruction.  They will be safe, because they are permitted to defend themselves.  Instead of being the victims of Haman's plot, the Jews are now the victors and will rule the day instead of rueing it.
