Zechariah 13: There Is A Fountain

"There is a fountain filled with blood
Drawn from Immanuel’s veins;
And sinners, plunged beneath that flood,
Lose all their guilty stains."

That is a rather poetic way of phrasing Zechariah 13:1, "On that day a fountain shall be opened for the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and impurity."  In 1772, William Cowper wrote the words to the classic hymn, "There Is a Fountain Filled with Blood" to convey the glory of the cross of Christ and what that sacrifice wrought.  Just as Zechariah foresaw, a fountain was opened that day for forgiveness and cleansing.  It remains open today, for us.
