Nehemiah 7: Heavenly Inspiration

"Then my God put it into my mind to assemble the nobles and the officials and the people to be enrolled by genealogy" (vs. 5).

Where do good ideas come from?  Nehemiah makes the claim that God is able to plant thoughts in our head so that we can be faithful in following Him.  This makes sense to me, especially considering that Christians believe God to be all-powerful, as well as compassionate and caring.  God is able to work through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to allow His people to "realize" something, apparently on their own but really through His help.  With this in mind, it's appropriate to pray for the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives, which is precisely what Jesus commended to His followers.

The next time you have a great idea, maybe it really came from above!
