Psalm 148: Praise, Praise, Praise

As the Book of Psalms nears its end, the emphasis is on praise.

The word "praise" appears 13 times in the 14 verses of Psalm 148.  Even in the verses in which the word itself does not appear, the theme is one of praise.  Everyone and everything in creation, from the highest heights to the lowest depths, is called upon to offer praise to God.  He alone is viewed as the One worthy of the praise of the universe.

It's no wonder that, back in 1225, St. Francis of Assisi based his beautiful Canticle of the Sun poem on Psalm 148.  Today we remember that work in the hymn, "All Creatures of Our God and King."  In it, like the Psalm, all creation is called upon to express praise to God.

Why not do that right now?
