Zechariah 12: Glimpses Of Jesus?

How many indirect glimpses of Jesus can you find in Zechariah 12?

"On that day the Lord will shield the inhabitants of Jerusalem so that the feeblest among them on that day shall be like David, and the house of David shall be like God, like the angel of the Lord, at their head" (vs. 8).  Jesus, who descends from the line of kings, is of the house of David.  How interesting that Zechariah should comment that the house of David "shall be like God"!  As the Son of David, the Son of Man, and the Son of God, Jesus truly is able to wear all those hats!

Zechariah goes on to say, "And I will pour out a spirit of compassion and supplication on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that, when they look on the one whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn" (vs. 10).  Jesus fulfills three components of this verse.  He is, indeed, One whom they have pierced through his crucifixion.  In addition, He is the only Son of God, according to John 3:16 and other verses.  He is both an only child and the firstborn Son of God as well.
