Daniel 5: God's Graffiti

"Mene Mene Tekel Parsin."  When a mysterious, disembodied hand suddenly appears during a royal banquet and writes these words on a wall, King Belshazzar (son of Nebuchadnezzar) turns to Belteshazzar (Daniel) for an explanation.

Unfortunately for Belshazzar, the message is one of doom.  Because he had treated the Lord's holy things with contempt by treating the vessels from the temple as common, God is going to teach him humility.  It won't be a lesson like the Lord taught his father Nebuchadnezzar, who was able to come back from his vanity and pride.  Instead, this is the end for Belshazzar.  The kingdom will be taken from him and given to another.

Daniel reveals the meaning of the words:

Mene: God has numbered/measured the days of your reign and is bringing it to an end.

Tekel: You have been weighed on a scale and found wanting.

Parsin/Peres: Your kingdom will be divided and given over to the Medes and Persians.

All that Daniel foresaw from this message happened that very night.  I guess you can trust it when God's hand shows up and puts down some divine graffiti!
