Zechariah 5: Flying Scroll And Basket

Looking at some of these prophetic visions, you may wonder what the people back then were smoking!
Two bizarre visions are recounted in Zechariah 5.  First is an image of a huge scroll measuring twenty cubits by ten cubits, or about 30 feet by 15 feet.  Second is a vision of a basket in which a woman who is the personification of wickedness is encased.  Both the scroll and the basket fly: the scroll around the earth to curse those who swear falsely and who steal; the basket escorted by two women with stork wings to the land of Shinar (Babylon) where it will be housed permanently.

What do these cryptic visions mean, other than that psychedelic drugs apparently go back a lot farther than the 1960s?  Seriously, they both have a meaning.  The flying scroll is a sign of God's judgment.  He continues to be jealous for His name and insist that the people pursue righteousness.  The basket of iniquity shows that God wants to remove wickedness from the land and take it back to where it belongs - the enemy Babylon.
